Looking Back at 2011

The Arab Spring:

Certainly this has been the biggest event in recent history; a direct result, no doubt, of the severe oppression visited upon the people by corrupt governments. According to reports the uprising, which quickly spread throughout the Arab world, was triggered when twenty six year-old Tunisian Mohamed Bouazizi lit the fuse that ended his life and ignited the uprising that swept the Middle East.

Bouazizi, a street vendor, set himself on fire in despair and in protest of his treatment at the hands of local authorities. Earlier, officials had seized his wheelbarrow full of produce and beaten him in public. The tragic circumstances surrounding Bouazizi's self-immolation sparked protests in his rural hometown. The protests, which sometimes turned into violent riots, quickly spread to other areas and the capital, Tunis.

The Tunisian government responded first with repression, unleashing state security forces on the demonstrators, arresting activists, and shutting down the internet. In spite of this the protests and violence continued, and by January 14, the president and his family were on an aeroplane to Saudi Arabia. The operating dasa at that time was ME-VE-SA.

There can be little doubt that the pratyantar of Saturn initiated the revolt and subsequent resignation/exile of the president (Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali). The unrelenting protests that brought down the 23 year-old regime and inspired Arabs throughout the region to stand up for their rights and revolt against their apparent rulers-for-life is clearly seen in the above charts. According to the dictums of Vedic astrology, Saturn is known (above all others) as the Karmic Planet. It is he that brings retribution to wrong doers. Note retrograde pratyantar lord Saturn (in lagna) aspecting 10th house which signifies government (ruling power).

In the transit chart we see Saturn occupying nakshatra of Moon in sign of Virgo (aspected by Jupiter, the planet of justice). The transit of Jupiter over natal 10th lord Sun in 5th house (8th from 10th) in mutual aspect with transit Saturn is a strong indication that the ruling power would topple...brought to justice by the people!

I am well aware of the innate ability astrologers have for justifying events with hindsight. However these events, shown clearly in above charts, are undeniable. For a better understanding of the mutual aspect between Jupiter and Saturn, readers might take a look at the article by Naagesh Sastri...see link SAI RAM under "Featured Blogs".
